Margate: Morning Manifestation 2020

January 10th-12th

Each morning is a fresh start, a chance to take steps towards becoming who you truly feel you are whilst embracing where you’re at with that journey right now. The most transformative thing I have ever done for my mental and physical health is commit to a regular morning routine and what could be more magical than starting every single day focusing purely on yourself? The quiet hours as the sun rises have a unique quality, what will you discover when you dedicate some time, every morning on growing, loving and accepting yourself? Vinyasa flow, artisan vegan food, great company, sea air…

Retreat 1: January 10th-12th

The power of starting your day right

Each morning is a fresh start, a chance to take steps towards becoming who you truly feel you are whilst embracing where you’re at with that journey right now. The most transformative thing I have ever done for my mental and physical health is commit to a regular morning routine and what could be more magical than starting every single day focusing purely on yourself? The quiet hours as the sun rises have a unique quality, what will you discover when you dedicate some time, every morning on growing, loving and accepting yourself?

Margate is such a unique place, with all the joy of being by the sea, endless cute independent boutiques, amazing coffee shops and a thriving bohemian community. It’s the perfect place to take a break and with three passionate people to look after you, you’ll be sure to leave feeling refreshed and inspired.

We know the word "retreat" means different things to different people, you might want to spend time alone or with others, you might want space to detox or maybe time to let your hair down, you might want to eat only vegetables or only chocolate.

With that in mind, we encourage you to join in with as many or as few of the activities as you wish. If you'd rather have a lie in than come to yoga, get cosy and enjoy catching those extra zzz's, if you’d rather head out for a hike, run or to explore the local area, just do whatever brings you closer to peace.

The Teachers

About Megan

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” B. B. King.

My teaching style is friendly and open. I have been teaching, in many disciplines, for over 15 years. I began teaching while working in the forests of Canada. I taught 18-25 year olds how to plant trees in snow, rain and extreme heat ALL while avoiding bears and cougars! I then spent a year in Australia teaching Aussie kids art in secondary school, less cougars but more snakes and spiders! My travels then took me to England where I then spent 10 years teaching secondary school in Hackney.

My travels and teaching have taken me to Margate where I know teach up to 20 hours of Hot yoga a week.

I discovered Yoga while teaching in Hackney, unable to switch off from work and completely stressed, this introduction to Hotpod Yoga would ultimately change the course of my life. An adrenaline junkie and lifetime yo-yo dieter and HIT workout or go home mentality I never thought yoga would be for me. I was wrong. My introduction to Hotpod showed me the power of connecting breath and movement, whilst being in the inclosure of the pod which allowed me to forget about other life stresses. Falling hard I decided to do my YTT 200hr and open my own Hotpod Yoga studio in Margate.

I have been running Hotpod Yoga Margate for over 2 years now and look forward to the opening of Hotpod Yoga Canterbury later in 2019. I have met, sweated with and become friends with such wonderful women and men during this time, it has completely surpassed my expectations. The stories and the experiences of the people I have grown to know have humbled me to my core.

Strip everything back; the ego, the poses, the world of instagram, yoga is moving and breathing, sharing a part of yourself on the mat, letting go and taking time for yourself. This is the point. It isn’t alignment, it isn’t party-trick poses and it isn’t the calories burnt.

MY teaching and my personality are tightly woven together and have always been. I consider this openness, heart on sleeve style, a strength which has allowed me to have strong relationships with those I teach and encounter.

My teaching style is creative, challenging and inspired by my love of anatomy. Recently embracing the body positive movement and my own body I am truly moved by the uniqueness and power of everyone’s individual bodies and my classes aim to have each student feel more gratitude towards their own bodies. I believe in alignment to a certain extent but only when it aids, supports and strengthens someone’s own body. Never being dogmatic in my approach to teaching and alignment I encourage my students to explore how poses feel when engaging specific muscles, instead empowering them to know when their body feels stronger in a pose rather than uncomfortable and uncertain.

About Corrie

I have dedicated my life to helping both myself and my clients find complete peace of mind and a body as free from pain and illness as possible. After an exciting but exhausting career singing and dancing in musicals in the West End and beyond, my body and spirit was broken and I left the stage to spend the past 10 years teaching yoga, Pilates, PT, meditation, nutrition and massage. Now my life is full, calm and rewarding and I would like to offer you the opportunity to find the same.

My teaching style is fluid, inspired by my advanced anatomy and Osteopathy studies to create an intelligent, alignment based approach yet also being creative, inspired by the freedom of my dance background. I back away from micromanaging my students, preferring to give just enough cues to empower them to find the best way for their unique bodies, but targeting the exact areas to open and contract, making my classes accessible and stealthily challenging!

I guide students to practice from a place of mindful engagement, rather than creating more strain, tension and ego. I feel no teacher is beyond questioning and I am constantly considering what I am offering to ensure it is dogma free, current and evolving, whilst still deeply honouring tradition.

I am an E-RYT 500 hour qualified yoga teacher with over 2000 hours experience as a yoga teacher trainer, leading both 200 and 500 hour vinyasa flow trainings. I’m also qualified in Pilates, personal training, meditation, nutritional therapy, yoga nidra and Thai yoga massage, allowing me to blend my skills to create an open minded, evidence based and welcoming environment.

Of course it's important to look in the mirror and feel confident with what you see, but I am much less interested with aesthetics and much more interested with health. If our bodies are well looked after, free from pain, fed great food and given down time they will end up being a true reflection of a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss should be the side effect of a health and fitness regime, not the goal.

My body is perfectly imperfect, it has scars, muscles and curves, it has wonderful capabilities and realistic limitations. Every photo you see on this website represents the three decades of life that I have been privileged to enjoy, without airbrushing and I am constantly being surprised by what this lovely body will allow me to do.

Being qualified in many areas allows me to cater for my clients' complex needs with a varied range of knowledge and experience. I live what I teach and have a regular yoga and pilates practice, as well as rock climbing and running obstacle courses, weight lifting, swimming and cycling.

The Venue

Come and stay in a grand old townhouse, with stripped wooden floors, high ceilings, and loads of period features. An ideal location with sea views, a green outside, and just 10 minutes walk to Margate Old Town and beach. Some great restaurants, shops, and sandy beaches are close by too. Every room is en-suite and will be set up as two people sharing in twin single beds.

There are plenty of large spaces in the house for you to enjoy, including cinema room, large sitting room, spacious kitchen, dining room with a table that seats 16 adults, play room and study/geek out space. There is a large courtyard garden with seating and barbecue.

THE FOOD

All of the food will be lovingly prepared by Sal, who is the head chef and founder of Breaden. She was trained at the renowned Leith's School of Food and Wine and she finds inspiration from her African and Indian heritage as well as her London roots to create flavours that are truly unique, seeing her win awards and gain a reputation for being a talented cuisinière.

She refers to her style of food as "inclusive eating" as she caters for those who want to live sugar free, vegan, dairy free and gluten free as well as those looking for more indulgent, classic treats. All too frequently free-from foods are lacking in the taste and texture categories and are often filled with processed alternatives and artificial sweeteners and flavourings. She lets the natural beauty of her ethically sourced, seasonal ingredients shine through, you have to taste it to believe it!
